Cruising the Alps:
The Resort
La Thuile

Hotels
Planibel 's residential complex which has a covered swimming pool, squash
and tennis courts, a bowling alley, is also the location of one the most
sought after hotels in La Thuile: the Hotel Planibel (ph: 0165-884541, fax: 0165-884535,
from 250.000 per half board) is a modern and very comfortable
hotel near the ski-lifts.
There are also two nice small, alpine style hotels: the Chalet Eden
(ph: 0165-885341, fax: 0165-885349) and the Château Blanc (ph:
0165-885341, fax: 0165-885343).
Gourmand points
The Riondet (ph: 0165-884634, approximately 55.000 per person)
is on the Piccolo San Bernardo slopes and can also be reached by ski-doo.
It serves typical Valle d'Aosta food: wholesome polenta, fondue and at end
of the meal the "grolla dell'amicizia" (hot spiced wine).
In town there is La Bricola (ph: 0165-884149). Situated in a
modest rural house, with a barn and stable and furnished with rustic
wooden benches and tables, it is La Thuile's best restaurant. Among
the specialties served there is onion soup, "bricolette" (gnocchi
wrapped in ham) and the "grolla dell'amicizia" (hot spiced
wine).
Shopping and leisure time
Every Saturday , including the winter, there is a nice, small open-air market
held on Planibel's small square where one can purchase local crafts, including
the "grolla dell'amicizia" (a wooden goblet with a lid in which
the typical hot spiced wine is served).
The Planibel discotheque, Fantasia
is where the younger people like to go. Its only competitor
is the Maison de Laurent piano-bar located in the near-by
Batieu district.
