Cruising the Alps:
The Resort
Ponte di Legno

Hotels
Ponte boasts some very refined and particularly romantic
hotels. The hotel Mirella is the best one (ph: 0364-900500, Fax:
0364-900530). It has cosy rooms, a swimming pool, sauna and discotheque.
The hotel Sorriso (ph: 0364-900488, Fax: 0364-91538) is a good
hotel but is located in the district of Temù, a little out of
the way, in relation to Ponte di Legno center.
The newest hotel at Tonale Pass is the Piandineve Hotel (ph.0335-6385817k)
and has 300 beds. At Tonale Pass the La Mirandola(ph. 0364-903933,
fax. 0364-903922) it's very near to the runs.
Gourmand stops
As Ponte di Legno is situated between two regions one can
taste both the Valtellina and Trentino cuisines. The best
known restaurant is Da Giusy (ph: 0364-92153). Although it is
not particularly rustic nor characteristic, it does offer the best food
in the area. Its specialties are: salted meat, "pizzoccheri",
"gnocchi de la cua" (gnocchi with butter and onions sauce),
polenta with the local "magnuca" cheese, and "sciatt"
(buck wheat griddlecake filled with the local "Bitto" cheese
and soaked in "grappa" eau-de-vie).
Leisure time
The Bar Roma and the Bar Nazionale are the two cafès where all of the Ponte
skiers meet to have breakfast (excellent croissants) or cocktails. The atmosphere is always
quite lively.
Shopping
On Corso Milano, the main street of Ponte, in the pedestrian district, there
is the Fratelli Salvetti store which offers gastronomic specialties.
Its window display is usually overflowing with enormous jars of porcini
mushrooms preserved in olive oil and other local delicacies.
