Cruising the Alps:
The Resort
Madonna di Campiglio

Gourmand points
There are two restaurants which must not be missed: The Malga
Zeledria (ph: 0465-440303), a rustic, family style restaurant high
up on the mountain, run by the restaurant-keeper Artini, famed chef
in Campiglio and owner of the homonymous restaurant in the center of
town. The Mildas located in Pinzolo, an outlying district of
Madonna di Campiglio (Vadaione, ph: 0465-502104) offers, among their
specialties, the "stinco con risotto" (rice with pig's foot),
"canederli" (dumplings) and "strangolapreti" (spinach
gnocchi).
Hotels
In Camp Carlomagno, just a few steps from the slopes, there
is the Hapsburg's ex-hunting lodge which has been converted into a hotel
furnished with period pieces: Golf Hotel (ph: 0465-441003, Fax:
0465-440294),. In the very center of town there is the Hotel Relais
Club Des Alps (ph: 0465-440000, Fax: 0465-440186), a centuries-old
convent converted into a hotel, which in times past was patronized by
the Emperor of Austria Franz Josef and his wife Sissy. It also has a
beauty center and a theater with cabaret shows. The Maso Doss (loc. S.Antonio
di Mavignola, ph: 0465-502758) has 6 wonderful rooms. It is a chalet
of the XVI century. The Hotel Diana (via Cima Tosa 52, ph. 0465-441011,
fax 0465-441049) is another wonderful and charming hotel
Leisure time and shopping
The Suisse (Piazza G. Battisti Righi) is currently the trendiest night spot
in town. With its wood panelled walls and sofas built out of snow rackets
it has a rustic ambience. To dance till dawn there are two discotheques, the Des Alps
and the Stark Club.
For sweet lovers the Casa del Cioccolato (The
Chocolate House) (Piazza G. Battista Righi), overflowing with praline and
refined confectionery delights, is a must. In the clothing section of the
centrally located Lorenzetti sports shop (via Pradalago)
one will find loden coats, dirndl (typical Tyrolean costume) and felt-wool jackets.
