The Byzantine mosaics preserved wothin its monuments and churches have been acknowledged by UNESCO as a world cultural endowment. An intiative entitled Mosaico di Notte makes it possible to contemplate the splendor of the mosaics also at night: each summer from June to September, Ravenna's principle monumnets such as the Basilica di San Vitale, the Mausoleo di Galla Placidia, the Museo Nazionale, la Tomba di Dante, i Giardini Pensili del Palazzo della Provincia and the Civic Art Gallery are open to the public until late at night.
