Puglia

Gargano Peninsula

Spicy cooking near blue skies and seas that are still wild. A taste of the real South, in all its beauty and temperament.

Lecce

Lecce is unfortunately outside of most travel plans, and even Italians don't consider it for what it is: a magnificent jewel of  baroque architecture, constructed in yellow stone and marvelously preserved. Great ice cream and coffee in the main square

Otranto

For the history found in every minute detail, Otranto deserves to be visited in every corner. The old town center is the first compulsory stop to discover beautiful spots and views striking for the southern aspect of the houses, painted in bright colors and enclosed in the wall fortifications overlooking the south bank of the harbor. There are also interesting walks along cobbled lanes where it is possible to buy typical handicrafts in terra-cotta and leccese stone.
The number of tourists is also steadily rising because of the very beautiful beaches and constantly improving hotel accommodation.
Not to be missed: The Cathedral consecrated to the Annunziata with its floor mosaic, the Castle with its irregularly-shaped plan matching the town walls, the abbey of San Nicola di Cāsole.

Tremiti Islands

Off the northern coast of Gargano, they are five charming yet rugged islands: San Nicola, San Domino, Capraia, Crepaccio and Pianosa.
Not to be missed: the "Cave of the Violets" and the "Cave of the Sea Cow", accessible only from the sea, in the island of S. Domino.
