Ancona

Main city of the Marches region, and important industrial and commercial center, Ancona stands on an imposing hillside. It boasts the only active port of the mid-Adriatic coast which allows a link with Greece and the countries which used to be part of the former Yugoslavia.
Not to be missed
: The church of San Ciriaco, overlooking the port, the main monument in town and the landmark of the city.

Ascoli Piceno

This town lies on a green plain at the confluence of two rivers and it partly preserves the Medieval town planning partially altered in the 15th and 16th century during the Renaissance.

Macerata

Macerata is a  quiet town surrounded by cultivated fields. It has preserved an elegant historical town center encircled by 16th century walls.
Not to be missed: the town center whose most important square is Piazza della Libertà overlooked by beautiful buildings.

Pesaro

Hometown of the composer Gioacchino Rossini. It preserves the elegance and the nobleness of its glorious past and the old part still maintains its 16th century look. In summer it becomes a hectic sea resort.
Not to be missed: the town center with Piazza del Popolo, the 17th century Fontana dei Tritoni and Palazzo Ducale.

Urbino

A magical place of the Italian Renaissance, once the seat of the Montefeltro court, frequently visited by men of letters and artists. Because of its university young people from all over Italy come here.
Not to be missed: Palazzo Ducale, the archetype of a 16th century princely residence.
