Main city of the Marches region, and important industrial and commercial
center, Ancona stands on an imposing hillside. It boasts the only active port of the
mid-Adriatic coast which allows a link with Greece and the countries which used to be part
of the former Yugoslavia. This town lies on a green plain at the confluence of two rivers and it partly preserves the Medieval town planning partially altered in the 15th and 16th century during the Renaissance. Macerata is a quiet town surrounded by cultivated fields.
It has preserved an elegant historical town center encircled by 16th
century walls. Hometown of the composer Gioacchino Rossini. It preserves the
elegance and the nobleness of its glorious past and the old part still
maintains its 16th century look. In summer it becomes a hectic sea resort. A magical place of the Italian Renaissance, once the seat of the Montefeltro
court, frequently visited by men of letters and artists. Because of
its university young people from all over Italy come here.
