Milano

Bellagio

Refined and elegant health resort in the province of Como. Situated on the top of a promontory which divides Lake Como in two, it offers superb and romantic views.
Not to be missed: the picturesque historical urban center with narrow and arched lanes and the beautiful patrician villas surrounding it.

Bergamo

A lively province city, one of the richest in Italy, it is the birthplace of   composer Gaetano Donizetti and of the commedia dell'arte character   Harlequin. It has a dual nature: "High Bergamo" is the old historical part of town: silent and austere; "Low Bergamo" is the modern town, heart of the economical and social life.

Como

Romantic small town on the lake, situated on a small basin surrounded by rolling hills which overlook the Lake of Como. It is the lake itself, with its reflections of the aristocratic villas and parks along its banks, which makes Como so charming.  Capital of silk and textiles, it makes for an interesting and profitful shoppping trip.
Not to be missed: the lake-front (Lungolario), the northernmost part of the town which arches around the gulf formed by the lake. The boats for the tour of the lake leave just opposite Piazza Cavour.

Lake Como

Lake Como, called also Lario, is a wonderful prealpine basin and one of the most remarkable sights in the Italian landscape. It takes up the bottom of a valley, divided into three branches, excavated by the old Adda glacier. On its banks there are beautiful villas and it is surrounded by famous mountains such as the Grigne and the Resegone.

Crema

Lombard town which preserves its ancient perimetral defense walls.
Not to be missed: Piazza del Duomo, the original town center.

Cremona

Situated between the rivers Adda and Po, Cremona is still famous for its lute-making tradition, as well as for its aristocratic Northern Italian cuisine. The famous composer Claudio Monteverdi was born here.
Not to be missed: Piazza del Comune, art center of the town and one of the most beautiful Italian squares, surrounded by breathtaking monuments.

Lake Garda

Lake Garda, named also Benaco, is the largest Italian lake: its origin is glacial and it fills a long and wide gully amidst Lombardia, Veneto and Trentino. The beauty of its landscape, extremely varied, is the result of clear waters, lush vegetation and an extraordinarily mild climate. The same mixture seems to be also the cause of the extremely high lifespan of its locals. The most important tourist resorts are: Salò, Gardone Riviera, Bardolino, Sirmione, Peschiera and Desenzano.

Lake Iseo

In a very dramatic landscape, it fills the bottom of the valley excavated by the Valcamonica glacier. Its banks go steep into the water and the landscape varies from alpine to definitely wild.
Not to be missed: Montisola, the biggest Italian lake island. It is patronized by many painters who love its romantic views and tiny fishing villages.

Lake Maggiore

It has one Piedmontese and one Lombard bank. The climate is so mild that it possible to grow olive, lemon, and orange trees. Its acid soil chemistry makes its banks the world growers of Azalea and Rhododendrons. There are many famous holiday resorts along its banks.
Not to be missed: The wonderful villas built by the upper middle classes during the 19th century, especially around Stresa and Pallanza. Villa Taranto hosts a magnificent historical garden, open to the public.

Mantova (Mantua)

It is traditionally considered the hometown of the Latin poet Virgil. During the 16th century it was one of the most splendid courts in Europe and an important meetingplace for artists and men of letters. In fact the wonderful scenery of the town center with interesting monuments and renaissance palaces dates back to that period.
Not to be missed: Palazzo Ducale, the ancient Gonzaga residence, Piazza Sordello and the medieval Piazza delle Erbe, the basilica of Sant'Andrea.

Pavia

Small city with a historical Roman urban plan, set amidst the green fluvial landscape of the rivers Po and Ticino. The two Romanesque churches of S. Pietro in Ciel D'Oro and S. Michele are of fundamental importance in the history of Italian art. Its university is very famous too.
Not to be missed: The 14th century Castello Visconteo and the Chartreuse of Pavia, a solemn monastery only a few Km from town.

Sabbioneta

One of the most interesting examples of Renaissance urban planning, with the town center entirely encircled by 16th century walls. From April to May it is the location of an important Antiques Fair.
Not to be missed: Piazza Ducale, bounded by noble arched buildings among which Palazzo Ducale stands out.
