Siracusa is one of the most ancient cities in the Mediterranean
region.
Its rich store of monuments bears silent witness to eras come and
gone, and provide a close and comprehensive look into the variety
and complexity which has characterized Sicily from its origins to
the present day.
The Classical
past , Arabic influences, the elaborate pomp of the Baroque period...
Siracusa has a seemingly infinite number of diverse aspects, a lengthy
list of possible cultural and tourist itineraries; the city is permeated
with such a vast array of myths and legends, even the most hurried
and harried tourist is sure to be spellbound.
A quick trip could conceivably consist of just two days: one spent
on the Mainland
, exploring the remains of the city's unique past, and one day adrift
on the Isle of Ortigia ,
an open-air museum.
Visitors fortunate enough to have more time on their hands should
allow themselves an excursion to the Castello
Eurialo , a veritable jewel of ancient military architecture.
When a little relaxation is in order, there are few more inviting
spots than the clean and sunny beaches at Fontane Bianche.
