ASCOLI PICENO
| This town lies on a green plain at the confluence of two rivers and it partly
preserves the medieval town planning partially altered in the 15th and 16th century during
the Renaissance. Via di Solestà is a fine example of a street lined with medieval houses and lofty towers, not far from St Vincenzo and Anastasius whose construction began in the year 1000. Today the town center and main meeting place is Piazza del Popolo overlooked by
Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo, Loggia dei Mercanti and the beautiful gothic church of
Saint Francis. Another monumental square is Piazza Arringo overlooked by the Cathedral,
the Baptistery and the Episcopal Palace.
