Clear, fresh, sweet and invigorating:
a DV guide to Tuscany's thermal baths
by Patrizia Vavassori

DolceVita has made a very special (and very pleasant!) first-hand study of a Tuscan treasure often overlooked by foreign visitors: the numerous mineral hot springs and baths.

The area of Tuscany between Pisa and the Tyrrhenian Sea features mineral springs whose excellent qualities prompted the construction of curative baths even at the time of the Etruscans and ancient Romans. This affinity for water, from cold ocean sprays to steamy pools of mineral-rich spring water points to an atavistic, even genetically transmitted urge.

Indeed, water is the source of life and the hot springs transmit a feeling of security and warmth reminiscent of the womb.
Water is the symbol of health, revered prized by mankind throughout the ages. Across the map, where mineral hot springs abounded, water became synonymous with power and economic and political strength as well as a vigorous constitution.

Full of adventure DV packed up and set off from Milano headed towards Pisa for a watery weekend. Visits to the thermal baths were supplemented by a boat excursion to the verdant Parco di San Rossore and the natural habitat of the Tyrrhenian's dolphins, porpoises and whales.
