Val Badia Lagazuoi

Land of the Breathtaking View

A set of slopes not to missed on any visit to Val Badia, is the long Lagazuoi run, an exceptionally beautiful run suitable experienced skiers. A mini-bus carries skiers from Armentarola to the Passo del Falzarego, where a cableway carries them to the Lagazuoi, an eagle's nest high up in the rocks. Its perilously high, craggy peaks were the scene of fierce fighting during W.W.I. Pillboxes and tunnels constructed by soldiers are still in evidence. The descent from Lagazuoi commences down a rather steep slope which goes of towards the left at the bottom, into a magnificent, easier run. The descent is thrilling, the wild and solitary surroundings dominated by high, rocky walls. .

Coming to a beautiful little clearing, the course leads to the rifugio (shelter) Scotoni, easily recognizable by the irresistible scent of masterfully prepared grilled meat wafting through the air! Continuing onwards, there is a lovely little frozen waterfall, followed by a large plateau. A local farmer awaits tired skiers with his sled, to carry them across the wide mesa by a very simple means: they attach themselves to cables and let themselves be towed by horses back to the starting point.

How to get there
From Cortina d'Ampezzo: Take the N 48 for Passo di Falzarego and go on in the direction of Armentarola, San Cassiano.
From Val Gardena: Take the N 243 towards Corvara San Cassiano, Armentarola.
