The Amalfi Coastline

Vietri sul Mare, Cetara and Minori

The main road is at points as high as 200 heady meters above the sea, often carved into the cliffs. Your senses will expand, teased by the salt air coming off the sea, delighted by the sight of the blue water below. The first two villages you'll come to along on the Costiera are Vietri, homeland of ceramics until the end of the 15th century, and Cetara, ancient porticciolo di pescatori famous for their anchovies packed in salt, both of which precede doubling back on the Capo d'Orso, a steep promontory that offers a breathtaking view of the marine horizon.

Looking to the north, you can see Punta Campanella which marks the end of the Gulf of Naples. In front of you is the famous Isle of Capri.
The peaceful silence of Minori envelopes its church and the beach front lined with bathing establishments. The tranquillity is broken only by the marine processions on July 13 held in honor of Santa Trofimena, patron saint of the city which was once part of the Repubblica d'Amalfi.

Minori boasts a gastronomic delicacy as tasty as it is unusual - eggplant made with chocolate (melanzane alla cioccolata), a dessert made with fried eggplant covered with chocolate, sugar crystals and ground almonds.
