Vietri, Cetara and Minori

Vietri's finest hotel is the Raito (ph. 089-210033, fax 089-211434). Located on a hilltop overlooking the sea.





Ravello

The city's most historical hotels are located along the Via San Giovanni del Toro, and the loveliest of these is likely the Palazzo Sasso, (ph. 089-818181, fax 089-858900), opened in 1997 in an antique building with a splendid view of the gulf, the hotel was completely restored and furnished with period pieces, local terracotta and Vietri ceramics. Optimum restaurant with regional cuisine and local specialties.

The Hotel Caruso Belvedere (ph. 089-857111, fax 089-857372), representing over a century of tradition, was a favorite among Virginia Woolf's Bloomsbury Set, and other illustrious guests including Graham Greene and Arturo Toscanini.

The elegant Palumbo, (ph. 089-857244, fax 089-858133), housed in a 12th-century building with a gorgeous view, hosted instead Paul Valery.

A more economic but no less charming is the Hotel Graal, in Via della Repubblica 8, (ph. 089-857222, fax 089-857551).

Amalfi, Furore and Praiano

The Convento dei Cappuccini, (Via Annunziatella 46, ph. 089-871877, fax 089-871886) offers 50 cells, housed in a 13th-century monastery. The accommodations are ideal for those could use a taste of Spartan retreat accompanied by a marvellous panorama.

The most beautiful hotel in Amalfi remains the Hotel Santa Caterina, (ph. 089-871012, fax 089-871351) 3 km. from the city center in an extraordinary location on the rocky cliffs surrounded by terraces and gardens which extend down to the sea.





Positano

At the Le Sirenuse (Via Colombo 30, ph. 089-875066, fax 089-811798) the Pompeian red hotel-villa of the Marchesi Sersale, which affords probably the best view of all Positano. There is a small pool, a panoramic terrace, verandas and the elegant and most refined La Sponda restaurant (interesting pasta dishes, a wide variety of fish and also a choice of pizzas.) The hotel is part of the Leading Hotels of the World chain.

Breathtaking, just a 2 km from town is the San Pietro, (Via Laurito 2, ph. 089-875455, fax 089-811449) projecting from a rocky height along the Costiera, the hotel boasts a private beach with lift access. Part of the Relais et Chateaux association.
