The Amalfi Coastline

Where to Eat

Vietri, Cetara and Minori

The typical restaurant Sapore di Mare (ph. 089-210041) serves a delightful house version of the famous Spaghetti alle Vongole and seafood salad, cod au gratin and shrimp.

Ravello

Cumpà Cosimo, Via Roma 44, (ph. 089-857156), is a very famous and much-frequented trattoria whose rather rustic specialties include marinated anchovies, seafood, swordfish, eggplant parmasan, stuffed peppers, grilled sausages and pizza.

Amalfi, Furore and Praiano

On board ship at lunch time, you'd do well to drop anchor to join the hungry pilgrims on their way to the Hotel Saraceno, where fish dishes with the freshest of ingredients are served.

In Amalfi, another address sure never to disappoint is Da Gemma, (Via Fra' Gerardo Sasso 10) with its terrace facing the cathedral's piazza. Try the ziti, the traditional unevenly-formed hand made pasta typical of the area, or the fried fish.

Ciccio Cielo-Mare-Terra (ph. 089-831265), on the road to Praiano, pays tribute to another local pasta: the scialatielli, eaten with seafood.

In Furore, try the Hostaria di Bacco, (Via G.B. Lama 9, ph. 089-830360) a famous trattoria with a panoramic view (also a small hotel) which features, among its many specialties, a meal consisting completely of lemon dishes-- try it to believe it!

Positano

The piazza at the marina remains ever the fulcrum of Positano life, bounded by the bar-meeting point La Buca di Bacco, which serves- at all hours, mind you-- plates of marinated anchovies, toasted bread with toppings and arancini di riso, a rice treat, and the elegant restaurant Chez Black, recognized by its signature red curtain.
