The Amalfi Coastline

What to buy

Vietri, Cetara and Minori

Vietri Ceramics: Vietri is dedicated to the tradition of its famous ceramics. The oldest and best-known factory is Solimene where three generations of artisans have handed down the secrets behind production of the characteristic colored tiles which make up the intricate mosaic flooring of the city's noble villas and most beautiful hotels.
Sales to the public 7 days a week from 10:00-13:00 and 16:30-21:00. There is also an abundance of dinnerware, plates and jugs in enamelled ceramic decorated with the motifs typical of the Costiera.

Limunciel. In Minori, in Corso Vittorio Emanuele 9, this shop is a veritable temple to the artistry of true limoncello, a liqueur made from an infusion using only the hand-peeled rinds of the greenest of lemons in first flower.

Ravello

Episcopio: don't leave Ravello without a bottle of the city's own white wine Episcopio!

Amalfi, Furore and Praiano

Amalfi Paper Goods. Amalfi has a long history of hand-produced paper products.
Outside the city, in the Valle dei Mulini, this tradition lives on at factories like Amatruda and Antonio Cavaliere which sell the elegant, handmade letter paper and business cards which have all but disappeared from everyday use.

Limoncello Positano

Fashion "made in Positano". The colors found in local flowers and the sweet, green Costiera grass have been translated into cotton. This characteristic cloth has travelled the world, made into wedding dresses of light gauze with macramé which appeal to visiting Neapolitan socialites and marriage-minded Americans. The finest examples of these are found at La Sirenetta, the Annamaria Mandara boutique on Via Panarea.

Limoncello and other delights... The La Zagara pastry shop is where to get the definitive granite al limone (Italian ice) strawberry tarts and Delizie, airy sheets of sponge cake filled with lemon cream. Here, they also make one of the best limoncellos around, as well as distillates of mandarin orange, aromatic oils and Mediterrenean herbs.

Sandals. The artisans' workshops dedicated to leather sandals are one of the "must visits" in Positano.
