Tremezzo and Villa Carlotta

Villa Carlotta Tremezzo is a lakeside village adorned by many traditional porticoed structures. It rises from the lake shore at a pictoresque spot on the Bellagio promontory near Grigne mountain, favored by writers and tourists alike. The area's many floral gardens flourish in the mild, sunny climate, and the Villa Carlotta garden is no exception. The splendid Barocco villa, built in the early 1700's, was named after Carlotta, the daughter Principessa Marianna of Prussia who acquired the property 1843. The villa's neo-classic interior is splendid, adorned with statues (several by Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen), paintings, tapestries and several canvases by Francesco Hayez.
The real "must see" at Villa Carlotta is, however, the fantastic terraced garden abloom with azaleas and rhododendrons from April to May .
The villa is open from April to September.
