Guide to Outlet Shopping

These factory owned and operated stores which sell seconds, vendor's samples, showroom garments, house brands, remnants and warehouse surplus are difficult to locate in Italy, where the approximately 1400 outlet locations jealously-- and quite understandably-- guard their addresses.

Discounts vary from outlet to outlet, ranging from 20% to 60% off recommended retail prices, and not all sizes, styles and colors are available. To get the most out of outlet shopping, it's best to browse through the stock on a regular basis. We recommend you opt for more classic items, and be careful when buying "seconds", although close inspection usually reveals only minimal imperfections. The best time to shop the outlets is in fall and spring: from September to November and from February to May.

Before visiting an outlet, it’s a good idea to double-check hours and access routes by phone. Keep in mind that most places do not accept credit cards, so you’ll want to have plenty of ready cash on hand.

Most brands are Italian, but we’ve also included well-known international brands where we found exceptionally good bargains.
