The Versace Stimulus

The death of Gianni Versace, whom we prefer to remember as he was in Florence's Giardini di Boboli, hit with the force of the shriek in Munch's "The Scream": the fragility, the vulnerability, the absence of a guaranteed eternity, the ephemeral quality of each life, even that of the most powerful among us. These themes should give pause to the fashion industry, one showing signs of fatigue, surrender, fear and second thoughts. We can only hope these reflections give way to vital new developments and fresh incentive.
