Spring-Summer 1999
Our fashion reporter Ottavia Pavesi shares with you her opinions,
observations and comments on the summer season's new looks and trends,
as seen on the catwalks of Milano.

The spring/summer collections rediscover the fascination of strong and intimate sensuality. Women are sure to experience a new sense of freedom through inspired combinations of line and form. The lightness and wide range of fabrics used in the "Milano Collezioni", from high-tech fabrics to organdie, chiffon, silk, linen taffeta to cotton, denim and jersey make this possible.
The emphasis on freedom is fundamental in the interplay of colors
and shades. Main colors
of the season, in addition to the insurmountable black and white,
are: pearl grey, violet, fuchsia, moss green
and geranium. A variety of lace, cut-out decorations,
pleats, sequins, rhinestones and zippers have been used to underscore
sensuality. Next summer's trousers are generally straight and loose,
with some low-rise or pleated styles. Yielding to more graceful lines,
hem lines are finally, and uniformly knee or ankle-length. Jackets
are casual and characterized by their very simplicity. The look is
co-ordinated with wooden sandals and low-heeled shoes with geometric
heels and multicolored straps. Textures
are shimmering, light, flowing, fluid.
