Preview Fall/Winter '98/99:

Evenings of luxury

Gai mattiolo, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana

Generally speaking, all the designers concentrated their efforts on the evening lines, all executed with a lot of sparkle and shine. The indispensable piece remains the sheath dress, interpreted à la nymphet mode by Alessandro dell'Acqua, and dramatically by Lawrence Steele, who created a luminous second skin of metallicized grey with lunar spangles.

Krizia:
"I've decorated necklines and backs with a shawl effect, topped off by embroidered woollen and velvet stoles". It is a particularly elegant collection with particularly interesting cuts and fabrics. Its perhaps most marked feature are the enormous collars on the coats, a very contemporary gesture.

Fendi, Luciano Soprani
Fendi:
The great return to fur, whether on the hem line, cuffs. tube bodices or shoulders. Political correctness notwithstanding, few remain completely immune to this collections allure.

Gucci:
"A softer silhouette next fall, a femininity and more understated richness." Tom Ford has taken up the traditional red and green Italian ribbon in an effort to redefine representations of richness. Sporty jackets with a touch of the techno characterize the line. They're a bit militaristic, lined in fur, and worn over Empire-style dresses which are straight laced for daytime wear and flowing in the evening.

Etro

Versace:
the house present a Hollywood-style evening event: garments in gold and silver designed right on the body with unexpected cut-out and pleats and surgically precise backs and necklines.

Dolce e Gabbana:
A contemporary look inspired by Art Nouveau, the line is ultra-sensual, expressing itself through a fascinating spectrum of colors, hand-painted floral designs on coats, shoes, scarves....in short, a wealth of sophisticated details for a happy season.
