Preview: Fall/Winter '98/99:

Geometry-the new equation

PRADA:
Simple cuts, panels and minimal geometric lines characterize the coming season's Prada collection, realized in an unusual fabric mix composed of contrasting materials: satin or chiffon with felt. By soaking these materials in water to blend both fibers and colors, a sort of hybrid and rather uneven effect is obtained which makes every garment unique. Hem lines are intentionally left unravelled, the cuts may appear rigid or confining but they actually inspire indeed actively promote movement. The collection is nicely balanced between the geometric and the fluid, putting Prada well on its way the heights of fashion.

Prada
TRUSSARDI:
Features panels, rectangles of cloth in organza or sheer wool, velvet or mohair, tailored and free-flowing. The python tabards over breeches is a daring stroke.

MILA SHON:
This is one of the more notable geometric lines, with lots of play using clean, precise asymmetry and ribbing.

Ter et Bantine:
"Capes 'n' cloaks with vertical slash pockets". Interesting constructions here by Ter et Bantine, a hot name among the current avant-garde.

Versace
Stephan Janson:
The line seems to be centered around the circular: the godet garments are voluminous, yet cut so precisely as to allow them to be closed by a single button! Janson is one of the stylists capable of making the fabric come alive to express his intentions with a simple gesture.

Dolce & Gabbana:
"The new woman is squeezed". Sensuality is bound into the close-fitting garments that underscore each woman's unique form. Stockings? Banned this winter...
