ELIO FIORUCCI
Elio Fiorucci was born in Milano on June 10, 1935.
He started on his adventurous exploration of design at a very young
age, searching out new products to introduce to the Italian market,
always with a eye on tendencies emerging among young people.
His goal was to satisfy a restless generation's seemingly insatiable
need for innovation and change.
His innate curiousity and ceaseless searching led him finally to open
the Fiorucci Dept. Store in Milano's Galleria Passarella in 1967. His
unerring ability to scope out new ideas, personalities, talents and
styles was at once evident and undisputed.
He continued searching, sifting and sorting his way to national acclaim
like a goldminer in a river bed.
His style proved to be in exact harmony with the spirit of the 70's:
iconoclastic and carefree, colorful, sensual, seductive and unique.
In just a few years, he had attained international recognition.
And how could he have done otherwise?
In his own words, "Fiorucci is for the individual; goes beyond
all class distinctions, barriers and confines -- goes beyond any and
everything which confounds freedom of expression and the desire for
change."
Fiorucci's role in the area of creativity has, with time, become increasingly
dominant to the point that his creations have evolved into veritible
icons of our time, included in contemporary collections in the U.S.
and England.
