FLORENCE: Via dei Tornabuoni


Leaving the Santa Maria Novella train station, go down Via della Scala. Continuing along Via del Sole, you'll run into the Via dei Tornabuoni at your right, just past the Tourist Information office. (The trip should take you approximately 20 minutes on foot.)
Florence's finest boutiques are concentrated along this ancient street, crowned by the trademarks of native sons Ferragamo and Gucci.

Note: The letter "r" following house numbers stands for "red", the color indicating commercial addresses. House numbers on residences are written in black . It's important to keep in mind that red and black numbers run in separate sequences.

ferragamoFerragamo(Via dei Tornabuoni 14r), referred to as the "shoemaker of dreams", has elegantly shod the feet of such screen stars as Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren. The United States presently accounts for 45% of Ferragamo's export trade and for aficionados, the chance to buy a pair of Ferragamo's in the very heart of "his" city is a real treat. Gucci
Gucci(Via dei Tornabuoni 73r) is perhaps the world's best-known Florentine trademark. Sold to the Arab concern Investcorp in the '80s, Gucci products still carry the family's trademark.

Versace's elegant boutique is located at number 13-14r on the Via dei Tornabuoni.

Bvlgari displays its famous jewelry farther down the street at number 61-63r.

ponte Vecchio
Continuing to the end of Via Tornabuoni, you'll find yourself on the banks of the Arno and its landmark Ponte Vecchio. The old bridge is a trove of goldsmiths and traditional craftsmen.


A stopover at Cirri for silks and laces is obligatory!

Be sure to visit the Antico Setificio Fiorentinoat via Bartolini 4r (shown by appt. Ph. 055-213861) and the marvelous woodcarvers workshop of Bartolozzi e Maioli (Via Maggio 13r) with its impressive display of antique frames and small wooden masterpieces.


Near Via dei Tornabuoni, the much-frequented Armani boutique is located at 51r Via Vigna Nuova.

Luisa a boutique in the same street at number 19-21r, carries the trend-setting fashions of designers such as Dolce & Gabbana.

Number 97r houses the Pucci shop, specializing in silks, pyjamas and scarves.

Krizia, its headquarters in Milano, has no shop in Florence but recommends a visit to the Radicchi boutique in Via Ungheria 22r.

Pomellato, silversmith and fine jeweler, is in the Piazza Antinori No.8.

Enrico Coveri's Florence store is in the Via Vigna Vecchia and Ferré's near Via Brunelleschi.

cafŽ Rest your feet at the Cantinetta Antinori (Piazza Antinori 3r, ph.: 055-292234) and treat yourself to one of the bistro's famous truffle sandwiches. Top off the experience with a cup of coffee at the antique Caffé Procacci.
Visit the Officina di Santa Maria Novella (via della Scala 16r), a shop first opened in 1612 which produces superb "Acqua di Lavanda all'ambra", soaps, perfumes, potpourri and "caramelle balsamiche".
