Urban Grays: Winter 1998's New Man

Gucci: the Man Outside the Laws of Fashion

Tom Ford, for Gucci, has presented the image of man demodé, demonstrating once again his fine perceptions. Shoes with buckles, white handkerchiefs peeking out of the pockets of a jackets worn over a vest and tie. Silhouettes are scant, and the eccentricity of military trousers with shirts of shot silk is somehow restrained and measured -- already a digested fact, familiar. A discreet style, not in the least silly. Coats are of leather and camel, ample and classic with irritatingly blue jeans a la Lil'Abner, which appear to be the only jeans shown this season.
