ITALIAN MANUFACTURERS
Gruppo Piaggio/MV
The most important news signalled by the former Gruppo Cagiva
were the new Husqvarna 2 and 4-stroke models of enduro, motocross
and superrotary bikes.
The new Gilera 600 Supersport with its 4-cylinder Suzuki motor
made it's debut at this year's Salone in Milano, as well as
new models by Ducati, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Laverda.
Ducati
Ducati wowed visitors not only with its injection engine Monster
620, but also with its pricey limited edition 996R Testastretta,
which dominated at its 2001 SBK debut.
Aprilia
Attention at the Aprilia stand was focused on a single model:
a 1000 cc naked model designed to contend with the Ducati Montster
Multistrada.
Also impressive, the Atlantic maxi-scooter set to hit retail
locations directly after the Salone, and several other scooter
innovations : the new Leonardo and the Scarabeo 100 with its
4-stroke engine.
Italjet
Italjet presented the latest version of its Grifon 900, now
equipped with an electrical fuel injection system, and a very
original specimen somewhere between a motor scooter and a motorcycle
with a Piaggio 500 engine.
Mondial
Mondial was represented at the EICMA by its current star, the
sporty Piega SBK, and by an aggressive naked model baptized
"Nuda".
Malaguti
Malaguti said to be presently negotiating motorbike
market entry with Voxan - presented a 400 cc version of its
Madison motor scooter.
Even minor manufacturers such as Beta, Borile, Gas Gas, TM,
Vertemati and Vor were represented, constituting an invaluable
enrichment of any detailed representation of the European motorcycle
industry.
