Italian Design Hits the Couch

by Elisabetta Bagliani

Italian sofas are turned out in new colors and shapes, with precise workmanship and particular attention to ergonomics.

Sofa shapes have become leaner, more compact. They've acquired a new lightness, without sacrificing softness or comfort. Pluses include precision workmanship and a large selection of cover fabrics-- and nearly all covers are removable these days! Producers are also paying close attention to ergonomics. This makes great sense, as only a design conforming correctly to the human body can assure maximum comfort. Modular units are back, permitting greater decorating freedom and diversity, as well as better use of space. The lines are essential, clean and modern.
