"The main problem for a designer is in the interpretation of the confines of a project". She is one of the few woman architects who have full responsibility in the planning of a project. She marries femininity with a slide ruler. For Aulenti, architecture is art and concrete science. Love for nature and trust in engineering are her characteristics. She is noted for having designed important museum centers, among which, in Venice, is the Palazzo Grassi (1985-86), in Paris, is the Museé d'Orsay (1980-86) and the Contemporary Art Gallery at Centre Pompidou (1982-85). "There is always an interaction between objects of design and architectural space." She always observes and examines the location of her work before making her first move. Even in her lighting projects, Aulenti always considers the architectural space in which lights would be inserted. The materials that she prefers are wood and brick. For the designing of furniture, Aulenti takes advantage of her capacity go back to traditional models, interpreting and transforming them into completely new objects marked by their own particular style. Aulenti's furniture designs have gotten exposure in shows in Italy and abroad. She plans shows for others as well, such as the traveling Olivetti show which has shown in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, London, Edinburgh, and Tokyo. |
