Franciacorta: An Itinerary
by Mariateresa Montaruli
![]() This area has remained characterized by profiles of the castles, crenellated towers, patrician residences and abbeys situated along the gentle behing Lake Iseo. Plans for a brief visit could begin with Paratico, a small community endowed with a splendid panoramic view, which takes in the Lantieri family castle. The lakeshore is dominated by the imposing structure of the Palazzo Carmagnola, a regal residence constructed on top af a pre-existing fortress. Continuing on your way from the village of Iseo, you'll pass the Riserva Naturale Delle Torbiere, a bird sanctuary, and arrive to S. Pietro in Lamosa, a Roman monastery complex with some quite interesting frescoes. Another monumental abbey is that of S.Nicola at Rodengo Saiano, with its three cloisters.
You'll then head back toward Erbusco, pulsating core of the wine making
region, for a most satisfying stopover at L'Albereta, an exclusive Franciacorta
inn which boasts the culinary skills of noted chef Gualtiero Marchesi
