You can run in to them growing wild along the coast of
the Italian peninsula, on the Italian islands and on the hills
above Lake Garda. Venerated since ancient times, they were used
to fashion wreaths of victory (hence the phrase "to rest on
one's laurels"). Today it has been relegated to the kitchen,
where it adds flavor and aroma to soups, broths, sauces, roasts
and stews.
